The new school year has just begun, but high school juniors and seniors, as well as their parents, are considering their future education. They are deciding where they will go to college and trying to find ways to pay for it. According to a statement released on PR Newswire, the company CollegiateZone is trying to help. The cost of higher education continues to skyrocket. For example, one year of tuition, room and board for a state resident at the University of Texas will cost $14,000 this year; a year at Harvard now costs $40,000. With costs at some schools nearing the amount of many parents' annual income, the need for scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial aid has never been greater. In spite of this need, every year, millions of dollars in college funding goes unused because guidance counselors, parents and students aren't aware of it and colleges haven't had a resource available to them that identifies qualifying students. And while there are resources meant to address this issue, such as the "Paying for College Student Resource Guide" by U.S. Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), the information can be difficult to find, especially the various application deadlines. CollegiateZone attempts to fill this need by providing college development tools via three diverse services. Using their Topquest service, students are able to search more than 900,000 scholarships, grants and awards, worth over $4.5 billion, and get matched based on their academic and personal criteria. "Topquest is a unique, all-in-one web-based system that offers students development tools to find the right opportunities for college," Stu Scandridge, CollegiateZone founder and CEO said in the press release. Topquest allows high school students and college transfers to search, match and apply to multiple colleges, as well as match to funding with just a few clicks. The elaborate search logic tool gives students more specific detailed search-match results and qualifies them based on their SAT, ACT, GPA and class ranking, and their personal criteria. Students apply to colleges using the one-time, online CollegiateZone National Common Application which is used to auto-fill multiple college applications and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. Topscholar and Topjock are services that feature enhanced self-marketing tools for performing arts and science students and athletes who want to continue their talent in college. "Topjock helped me get noticed," student Sarah Hunsicker, who used the service to search for an opportunity to play volleyball and created an online profile with video, audio, photos, and newspaper clippings, said in the statement. "The process was easier and less expensive than other companies. Had it not been for this service, I probably wouldn't be playing college volleyball today on a scholarship." Colleges and universities have begun using Topquest to post and manage their scholarships and grants in the CollegiateZone database. They are also using the system to find students that match their curriculum and meet their scholarship and grant requirements, especially those that go unused.
