    The               State               of               California               is               anticipating               creating               thousands               of               jobs               fixing               the               State's               bridges,               roads,               schools,               and               levees.

    It               takes               some               effort               to               get               accepted               into               an               apprenticeship               program               and               not               all               of               the               programs               have               openings               all               the               time,               but               get               your               name               in               with               as               many               as               possible               and               make               sure               you               have               all               the               qualifications               they               are               looking               for               before               the               jobs               come               available               so               you               will               be               ready               when               called.

    Apprenticeships               are               paid               jobs               with               on               the               job               training               and               California               is               anticipating               hiring               close               to               200,000               apprentices               over               the               next               10               to               12               years.

    This               is               just               based               on               funding               from               the               state.

    If               they               get               more               funding               from               the               stimulus               bill,               there               could               very               possibly               be               much               more               and               those               will               start               fast               as               well.

    Apprenticeships               are               an               excellent               way               to               break               into               a               trade               in               California               because               there               is               a               law               in               California               that               requires               that               there               be               1               apprentice               for               every               5               journeymen               laborers               on               public               works               projects.

    The               most               opportunities               will               be               for               carpenters,               ironworkers,               laborers,               operating               engineers               and               cement               masons.
                   In               order               to               qualify               for               an               apprentice               job               in               California,               you               must               be               at               least               17               and               have               either               an               high               school               diploma               or               a               GED.

    IN               some               cases,               you               will               have               to               pass               a               test               to               be               considered.

    The               apprenticeship               program               in               California               is               under               the               California               Department               of               Industrial               Relations.

    Check               them               out               for               specific               qualifications               for               each               position.
                   An               apprentice               does               not               work               for               the               state,               they               work               for               the               private               contractors               who               have               won               the               bids               for               the               projects.

    Most               last               for               4               years,               but               there               are               some               as               long               as               6.At               first,               an               apprentice               earns               about               30               to               50               %               less               than               the               journeymen,               but               they               do               receive               regular               increases.

    Apprentices               also               attend               school               4               hours               a               week.
                   Minimum               Industry               Training               Criteria               Some               apprenticeship               programs               must               meet               certain               standards               and               most               of               these               are               in               the               building               trades.

    The               company               must               meet               the               standards               in               order               to               be               allowed               to               participate.

    How               ever,               all               of               the               programs               have               graduating               requirements               and               the               apprentice               must               meet               them               in               order               to               become               a               journeyman               or               get               a               certificate               from               the               state.

    These               industries               already               have               minimum               training               criteria               established.

    You               always               want               to               know               how               your               nearest               major               hospital               ranks               among               other               hospitals.

    Not               to               say               that               if               you               happen               to               find               it               not               on               the               list               that               it               isn't               a               good               hospital.

    Then               again,               everyone               has               their               own               preferences               in               what               makes               a               hospital               great.

    It's               not               just               the               statistics               that               one               should               consider.

    But               the               overall               experience               of               when               you               step               inside               the               door               and               speak               to               professionals.

    But               I               must               say               that               from               my               experience,               the               closest               hospital               to               me               may               have               good               standards               according               to               some               medical               definitions.

    But               my               experience               from               the               last               visit               (twice               actually)               wasn't               all               that               great.

    I               wont               say               which               hospital               it               is               but               I               will               say               it's               in               SLC.

    Not               including               the               supposed               high               standards               that               are               acquainted               with               the               establishment,               I               found               the               staff               more               of               the               time               to               worried               about               other               issues               to               asses               my               needs.

    Or               to               correctly               say,               my               daughters               needs.

    I               was               there               for               way               too               long               and               overall               ignored.

    I               had               to               really               open               my               mouth               to               get               service.

    And               that               shouldn't               happen               at               hospitals.
