About 'dominican college of san rafael'|Al tells the future like it is








The               Atlantic               reports               that               one               New               York               gubernatorial               candidate               is               touting               "The               Rent               Is               Too               Damn               High"               as               his               campaign               platform.

Jimmy               McMillan               formed               the               party               and               ran               in               2006               for               governor,               and               then               for               Mayor               of               New               York               City               in               2005               and               2009.

This               year,               he               has               a               rap               song               to               note               his               feelings               regarding               taking               "damn"               out               of               his               party's               name.

The               official               ballot               language               for               McMillan's               cause               is               "The               Rent               Is               2               Damn               High               Party."               You               can               hear               more               of               McMillan's               words               on               his               own               website.

He               actually               joined               frontrunners               Andrew               Cuomo               and               Carl               Paladino               on               stage               for               a               recent               debate.

Other               fringe               candidates               are               not               quite               so               dire,               but               have               serious               platforms               to               try               to               unseat               the               established               parties.

One               candidate               in               particular,               although               she               has               long               odds               of               winning,               might               just               make               waves               in               California.
               Laura               Wells
               Laura               Wells               on               her               website               has               said               she               will               stay               away               from               negative               campaigning               used               by               mainstream               candidates               in               the               California               governor's               race.

She               is               running               on               the               Green               Party               ticket               on               Nov.

2,               2010,               and               supports               the               legalization               of               marijuana               in               California;               gay               rights,               including               the               right               to               marry;               and               an               immigration               policy               that               goes               against               Arizona's               SB               1070.
               As               you               can               imagine,               much               of               the               platform               of               the               Green               Party               includes               more               sustainable               uses               of               energy               production.

To               this               end,               Wells               advocates               a               more               local               approach               to               California's               power               needs.

This               includes               solar               and               wind               power               in               communities,               publicly               owned               utilities,               and               a               need               for               more               employment               to               help               weatherize               homes               and               make               energy               usage               more               efficient.

With               California's               large               population               and               huge               amounts               of               power               consumption,               these               ideas               only               make               sense.
               Laura               Wells               comes               from               a               non-political               background,               as               she               has               run               for               state               controller               twice               and               is               a               vocal               leader               in               local               and               statewide               Green               Party               meetings.

Her               Facebook               page               touts               over               1,400               people               "like"               Laura               Wells               for               governor.

Wells               has               one               daughter               who               was               homeschooled,               and               is               a               native               of               Michigan.
               Wells               recently               made               news               when               she               was               arrested               on               Oct.

12,               2010,               while               trying               to               enter               a               debate               between               Meg               Whitman               and               Jerry               Brown               in               San               Rafael.

Wells               had               a               ticket               to               attend               the               debate               but               was               arrested               because               she               was               a               candidate               for               governor,               according               to               the               San               Francisco               Chronicle.

In               her               blog,               Wells               stated               she               was               arrested               for               trespassing               on               private               property               since               Dominican               University               is               a               private               college.
               Although               the               Green               Party               isn't               as               established               or               well-funded               as               the               Democrats               or               Republicans,               Wells               makes               several               key               points               and               impassioned               pleas               to               Californians.

Many               pundits               believe               the               marijuana               legalization               on               the               ballot               may               actually               pass               this               year,               and               Wells               can               certainly               derive               some               votes               from               that.

If               the               rest               of               the               state               is               fed               up               with               the               two               main               parties,               then               Laura               Wells               may               well               be               a               sleeper               candidate               who               could               actually               win.

With               so               many               Tea               Party               upsets               already               this               year,               who               knows               what               could               happen?
